Happy Birthday Marines

To Devil Dogs, Leathernecks, and Jarheads;

May this message find you in good health and proudly serving in the tradition of those who preceded you. You are at this very hour serving your nation in a time of great need, combating enemies unlike any we’ve faced before. Rest assured that we who have served in the Corps or otherwise and we who live free and secure in this great nation are confident in your unequaled ability, courage and devotion to the cause you serve. On this day, we will take special care to remember your contribution to our nation, and likewise to remember the Marines who’ve served from the American Revolution to the World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Kuwait, Afghanistan and around the world every day of our nation's history.

Much of who I am today came to be at the hands, hearts and minds of Marine leaders who served as my mentors and examples of that which I aimed to be, as well as through the amazing young Marines who served along with me, even if some of the messages didn’t fully sink into my "grape" until after my service was complete. My gratitude to you all is unmatched and cannot be expressed fully here. In addition to the Marines, my gratitude extends to those who've supported them as husband or wife, child or parent, or friend, and to the many service men and women in the Navy, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard. May God bless you all this day and everyday.

For more messages on the Marine Corps Birthday, read the Commandant’s message to the Marines and General Lejeune’s message, which is shared by all Marines every November 10th.
