Name and Endgame

Roger L. Simon has begun calling a spade a spade. Is it Islamofascism or Islamo Fascism? Or Islamism? per Daniel Pipes.

Either way, what we agree on is that it isn't a War on Terror. It is a war against those who would use Islam as a means to control, manipulate and kill for their own power and glory. It is a war against Islamo Fascism.

He offers the name in the "Dangers of Dawa". I'll have more to say on dawa at a later date.

For an update on the battle in Najaf, read Tacitus at RedState.

What I don't agree with is the "endgame" description used by Juan Cole.

It seems to me possible that this recent outbreak of fighting has initiated an endgame. It is hard to imagine Allawi and the Americans putting up with this challenge. The question is whether they can crush it without fatally wounding their own authority. I still think "Iran 1978" is the worst case scenario for Iraq, and a massive crackdown on the Sadrists, with Muqtada killed or captured, could set that ball rolling.
If it is an "endgame" in Najaf, it is only the endgame for Sadr and his compatriots. Sistani is still alive. The ideological component of the war is still far from over, and that being said, the next Sadr will arrive from Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia or internal to Iraq (Shi'a or Sunni) in due time.

Juan Cole asserts

"An "Iraqi official" fed al-Hayat some cock and bull conspiracy theory that tried to tie Muqtada, al-Qaeda, Fallujah, Zaraqawi and Iran all together into a tight terrorist network stretching from the Jordanian border throughout Iraq and into Iran. This attempt to relate all this movements or imply Muqtada is al-Qaeda would be hilarious if it were not so tragic. Zarqawi hates Shiites and Muqtada has threatened him; they aren't on the same side."
Of course there are issues that separate the IslamoFascist of Zaraqawi's ilk from the Shi'a regime in Iran. I'm certain that despite their religious convictions, these men are such that they would clearly permit and embrace: The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Friend. Just as we have accepted Saddam as a friend while he was at war with Iran, just as the Soviet Union was our friend in Europe during WWII, the IslamoFascist will tolerate the Shi'a Nationalist such as Muqtada Sadr, in this war.
