Religion on Sunday
Religion is a greater threat to America than Terrorism says former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich in a recent American Prospect article.
If he only meant the fascistic version of Islam practiced by UbL and his followers. But did he?
Not a chance.
He believes that the great battle of the 21st century will be:
"those who believe in the primacy of the individual and those who believe that human beings owe their allegiance and identity to a higher authority … between those who believe in science, reason and logic and those who believe that truth is revealed through Scripture and religious dogma. Terrorism will disrupt and destroy lives. But terrorism itself is not the greatest danger we face."
It frightens me that a man who many consider reasoned and practical, could promote such a concept. The truth remains that those who most adamantly have supported the primacy of individual liberty have been those who believed in a higher authority, our founding fathers for example.
